The walls of reeds and mud that Blasco Ibáñez portrayed so well in his literature form the limits of the Valencian countryside. The residents of the Plaza Músico López Chavarri, through their balconies, demand a new green and public space for their neighborhood. Our proposal is inspired by tradition, reformulating the materials of our memory (on the other hand the materials of our memory (on the other hand, profoundly modern in their environmental values) and the ideology environmental values) and the idea of the Mediterranean balcony, to create a vibrant pavilion-plaza in the heart of the Barrio del Carmen. the heart of the Barrio del Carmen.
The design of CAÑAS Y BARRO revolves around a grid that seeks to configure the square. The project takes advantage of the perimeter to create an allegory of the balcony, providing a place to sit, plant vegetation or conduct activities. This perimeter uses the Mediterranean shutter as a space-defining element. In this way, depending on whether you raise or lower the shutters, the perimeter gallery takes on a different character: loggia, cloister, gallery, etc... also changing the relationship between what happens on the street and in the pavilion. The center of the pavilion is uncovered, but thanks to the perimeter blinds the space is protected from the sun.
The project proposes a program of activities beyond the TAC! Festival. Workshops on native plants will be held prior to the construction of the wooden structure and neighbors and children from the neighborhood will be invited to participate. During the festival, depending on whether the shutters are opened or closed, it will be possible to host a neighborhood market, use the courtyard for more private activities, or all sorts of arrangements in between. After the festival, it is proposed to maintain the bench structure, so that it will become part of the future park, thus leaving a positive footprint in the city.
