Studio-House for a craftsman.

Gelbentzu. Ultzama
Projects 4 - 2012
The Studio-House for a craftsman locates itself in Gelbentzu, a small village of the Ultzama. This craftsman is dedicated to work the stone as a material itself and therefore it is decided to construct the building consequently, with that material with wich the craftsman himself handles day to day. Anonymous architecture is considered as a starting point for the project, and its relation to industrial architectures, wich devoid of a direct message are capable of very interesting atmospheres. They express themselves but not by imposition of the architect, and the construction element is therefore of pure necessity, determining the form as a function of the topography.
The chosen area to locate the house is the plot on a slope which is located in the arrival of the village, generating the project from the integration in the natural environment, through a set of masonry walls and giving importance to the concept of landscape in dialogue with the house.
Thus the ground floor is organised adapting himself to the ground through these walls, wich with their changing section are intended to guide the view into the Valley, and also through the wet cores that define and order the interior space.
This way, four pieces are generated, two housing and two workshop, separated by the crack of access, and connected by a common flat roof which happens to be sloped at the same time at the last and workshop area. This is proposed as a more open workspace that receives northern light from the façade facing the ground because of raising a glass hole allowed by the slope of the roof.
At the same time the house also receives lighting from its both sides thanks to a patio adjacent to the corridor, promoting this way the cross-ventilation throughout the whole project.
