Planning 2012, Completion 2016
The development at the northern end of Kastanienallee closes a gap in the urban fabric. A lively mixture of uses from trade, service, gastronomy and living builds on the long history of this place which was a well-known address of urban life from the middle of the 19th century to 1960 as a garden bar, vaudeville theater and film palace. The new buildings frame a courtyard with a playground and shops, which invitingly opens to the bustling Kastanienallee. Towards Schönhauser Allee the complex concludes with a commercial building – but a passage retains the connection between the two streets. The varied height of the buildings, the central square with shops in the ground floor and the colorful juxtaposition of diverse uses creates a vibrant, full-scale urban ensemble.
